The idea of having a whole season of a television show encompassing 1 single day was quite successful for 24. Writers, trying to use 24 as a recipe for more successful shows have tried to re-invent this idea for new shows. I'm gonna give away the punchline right now: this does not always work.
Take for instance this new show: Big Day. Maybe you've heard of it but probably you haven't. The basic idea is almost as simple as taking real life people and making them eat bugs for money: a couple is getting married and this is their wedding day, let's see what can go wrong. The show has a very 24-esque feel to it sans Jack Bauer and I suspect sans viewers. Having a whole season revolve around 1 day works well for 24 but one can hardly compare Jack Bauer's attempt to save the world from a deadly virus during the course of a day with the problems that arise on a wedding day. "Oh no!! Muffy the 1,000 Monarch Butterflies that are supposed to be released when the minister announces you are man and wife have disappeared! And your limo is not the right color! Whatever will we do!"
Meanwhile a show like "Arrested Development" gets canned. Nice.
I dunno - sounds like an AWESOME show.
