There are new evacuation route signs all over the Cape now as part of the Cape Cod Emergency Traffic Plan directing you to safety should there be cause to evacuate.
The first phase of the plan is to eliminate the causes of congestion and keep traffic flowing in the area of the Sagamore and Bourne Bridges and the main arteries leading to them. The second phase of the plan attends to closures on both bridges, should they be compromised or too dangerous to cross.
There are specific directions for people which depend on where you are and where you are going to help facilitate the flow of traffic. You can find all these specific directions here.
But honestly folks, if there is an emergency on the Cape and residents and visitors have to be evacuated, and you cannot see the bridge from your house, evacuating west will be just about as effective as evacuating east.
