'Easy Tiger' Review

So I suppose I should write my own, un-expert, review of Ryan Adams’ “Easy Tiger” album which came out this past Tuesday. I’ve been awaiting it (somewhat) patiently. The song, “Two” with Sheryl Crow has been getting a lot of attention as the single but I don’t feel it is the best song on the album. Upon first listen, my favorite kept changing. My current favorites are “The Sun Also Sets”, “Pearls On A String”, and “Halloweenhead”. "Pearls On A String" has such a great sound.

There were a couple of disappointments right off the bat. First, the longest song is 4 minutes and 11 seconds. The 5-minute plus songs are noticeably absent. The second disappointment was “These Girls”. Upon first listen, I had déjà vu. And then realized it’s not me, he changed some of the lyrics to a previous song, “Hey Mrs. Lovely” which was an unreleased track from a bootleg entitled “Destroyer Sessions” from his Heartbreaker era circa 2000. The problem? I really like “Hey Mrs. Lovely” as it is. True, I haven’t given the edited, more polished “These Girls” a true chance, but I much prefer the song as it was.

I love the album cover. The middle of the CD sleeve contains images of RA and the band. There is one black and white image of Ryan Adams crouching over a handwritten and hand edited music sheet on the floor making changes, his head resting on his knees. This is exactly how I picture him working on songs.

There are a few songs that remind me of previous albums:
  • Goodnight Rose – Cold Roses
  • Everybody Knows - Gold
  • On My God, Whatever, Etc. - Gold
  • Tears of Gold – Jacksonville City Nights
  • I Taught Myself How to Grow Old - 29

I am still just listening and thinking.

By the by, he appeared Wednesday night on Letterman to perform “Two”. He was very clean-shaven, and sharply dressed, but he looked awkward without glasses and not holding some instument in his hands.

While I was sleeping

I must have been sleeping when all these ticket rip-off agencies came onto the scene.
I knew about Ticketmaster but where the heck did the rest of them come from?

  • Stubhub
  • Online Seats
  • Go Tickets
  • Ticket Liquidator
  • Tickco
  • Coast To Coast tickets
  • Tickets Now
  • Buy Sell Tix
  • Your Official Tickets
  • Select A Ticket
This is really ridiculous! I try to buy 2 tickets to the Ryan Adams concert in Somerville MA and it is sold out. I was really really shocked and thought, 'I know his fans miss him, but geez!' Nope. I do another search and low and behold there are tickets available. Lots of tickets available. Lots and lots of tickets. For $130 per ticket. The face value of each ticket is $35.

With the rise of BitTorrent and mp3 sharing I don't expect many artists will pull a late 60's Bob Dylan.

What a racket. I guess I won't get to see Ryan Adams this time around. :(
